As a 21 year-old woman, I am learning to love myself for who I am. And part of that is loving how God made me. Last week, I was starting my study time with God and I stumbled upon PSALMS 139:14 which reads, "I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made." I have heard this verse, like most people, a dozen times BUT I never studied it personally.
Usually when I study the Word, I read the entire chapter or verse and allow the Holy Spirit to lead me to certain words or concepts he wants me to focus on. Of course, the words "fearfully" and "wonderfully" stuck out to me. I began to ask, Why these words? What do they even mean?
"Fearfully" is a reference to the fear (respect) you should have for God and in the context of the verse, God made us to respect him and give him the glory he deserves. "Wonderfully"- God has made us all unique with skills, talents, purpose, etc. Wonderful means in a way that inspires delight. The way I see it is God loves us so much that he made us in his image and he has called us to be the light of this world.
Verse 15 in the AMP version reads, "When I was being formed in secret, and intricately and skillfully formed..." This verse says that to form us it takes skill and an eye for detail. God has handcrafted every single one of us and made/makes no mistakes. When you buy handcrafted things, they are usually high quality (it takes a master/expert/God), expensive (we were bought at a high price by the blood of Jesus Christ) and unique (each of us are different).
PSALMS 139:16 confirms that God knows what has happened and will happen in our lives. Why don't we turn to the one who knows our future?
So...
BEFORE we were formed he knew us (JEREMIAH 1:5)
THEN, he gave us purpose (JEREMIAH 29:11)
LASTLY, he formed us "fearfully and wonderfully" (PSALMS 139:14)
Remember, you were made on PURPOSE for a PURPOSE and the enemy wants us to forget who we are to God.
Always,
L
